This experience takes place in Villarrica, Chile and surrounding lakes, nature reserves, and national parks. Villarrica is the capital of the Zona Lacustre or Lake District and the gateway into northern Patagonia. This area is known for its lakes, waterfalls, volcanoes, and millennial forests boasting incredible flora and fauna. Our region is also home to the Mapache people, who continue to preserve the traditions, cuisine, and language that has shaped this land for hundreds of years. In the Mapuche worldview, time is not a straight line but a living cycle — shaped by seasons, and the rhythms of the land. In southern Chile, this sense of time is felt in the unhurried flow of rivers, the slow turning of forests, and a quiet awareness that the past and present exist side by side.
Our retreats are thoughtfully designed for leaders and groups who value depth over pace — those who seek meaningful connection and the quiet luxury of time well spent. Our emphasis on slow travel and small group sizes offers you a deeper connection with your clients and an immersive experience in northern Patagonia’s natural beauty.
In addition to nature-focused experiences, we also offer travel itinerary planning services. As a complimentary part of this package, you will have access to our travel planning services before you depart for Chile — whether you are looking to journey to Torres del Paine or simply explore a bit more of our region before or after your retreat, we will create a tailored itinerary for you.
We create once-in-a-lifetime experiences for you and your clients — either done for you or done with you. You choose your level of involvement and exploration style; we take care of the rest. Huerquehue National Park boasts some of Southern Chile’s most stunning flora and fauna — from vibrant birdlife to the iconic Araucaria, Chile’s famous monkey puzzle tree.
This hike is moderate with a combination of gentle walking stretches and some steep inclines, but the stunning views make every step worth it. In total we spend about 4-5 hours in the park and enjoy plenty of snacks and and a picnic lunch at Laguna Toro.
We’ll venture to a local award-winning orchard, to experience the cider-making process — from orchard to glass, where tastings, stories, and luncheon unfold to the slow rhythm of southern Chile’s countryside.
Spend the day in one of Chile’s most iconic natural sanctuaries, where ancient araucaria forests and glacier-fed lagoons lie under the watchful eye of Volcán Llaima.
Some highlights of Conguillío National Park include La Araucaria Madre, a 1,800 year old monkey puzzle tree — Araucaria araucana — and the Trufel-Trufel waterfall.
As evening settles in, we’ll gather for live music featuring traditional Chilean and Argentine ballads, while sharing impressions of Conguillío’s biodiversity over a traditional Chilean asado (grilled barbecue).
After a day of hiking, there is little better than a soak in thermal spring water.
Termas Geometricas — some of the most beautifully designed thermal baths in Chile, at the foothills of Volcán Villarrica — offer a truly unique and restorative experience.
Huilo Huilo is a privately protected biological reserve in that preserves a rare stretch of Valdivian temperate rainforest — one of the most biodiverse and least common forest ecosystems in the world.
The reserve is known for its lush landscapes of ancient forests, waterfalls, rivers, and glacial lakes, as well as its rich wildlife, including species like the pudú, puma, Darwin’s frog, and the endangered huemul deer.
Activities to chose from at the Huilo Huilo Reserve include nature walks, museum visits, cultural activities, wildlife sighting, kayaking, and horseback riding, which we will coordinate ahead of time according to your preferences.
By now you're quite familiar Volcán Villarrica, its ever-present slopes quietly keeping watch in the backdrop of each activity.
In Mapundungun, Volcán Villarrica is called Rukapillan, which means "the house of the great spirit."
No stay in Villarrica would be complete without making its acquaintance.
We will journey up the volcano, for an invigorating walk in the national park with spectacular photo-taking opportunities.
Or for those who prefer a more exhilarating experience, we can arrange for your group to summit the volcano with local expert guides (volcanic activity permitting).
Keep in mind that summiting the volcano is an all-day activity involving technical gear, taking a total of 7-8 hours (with 5-6 hours of ascent), the descent is usually accomplished by sledding down the snowy slopes.
This activity available from November through March.
Enjoy a degustation of boutique wines featuring Chile's most emblematic grapes, including Carménère, Cabernet Sauvignon, and País, led by Chilean enologist and wine-maker, Rodrigo Moraga.
Chile is internationally known for its high-quality, approachable wines — shaped by a unique geography that naturally protects vineyards.
The country’s long, narrow form — bordered by the Andes Mountains, the Pacific Ocean, and the Atacama Desert — creates ideal growing conditions, with a Mediterranean climate in central regions that’s especially well-suited to grape cultivation, with wine regions such as the Maipo and Colchagua Valleys earning global acclaim.
We’ve arranged a special once-in-a-lifetime experience: a flight with the private pilots at our local airports.
The Villarrica Airport is just 20 minutes from our property, and the Pucon airport around 40 minutes away. This experience is available in helicopter or small plane.
Your approximately 45-minute flight will take you above the crater of Volcán Villarrica and surrounding areas for an incredible view of the region’s lakes, forests, and volcanoes from above.
To liven our spirits, we'll start the day the with a coffee tasting prepared by the barristas from Eco Mapu, a local specialty coffee-shop known for its dedication to the craft and creative incorporation of regional flavors.
In 2025, Eco Mapu was awarded #10 Best Coffee Shop in South America, taking the #2 position in Chile.
Villarrica is home to a thriving specialty coffee scene with six specialty coffee shops, two of which have won global awards.
Local waterfalls -- such as La China and El Leon -- offer an incredible environment for nature-immersions, perfect for meditation and groupwork.
These privately owned nature reserves offer a smaller-scale, easy forest strolling for those who prefer something less intensive than the national parks.
These waterfalls are located around 50 minutes from La Colina estate and take around 30 minutes total walking to arrive at the waterfall.
The Ziwilwe Park and Trail is a forgiving hour-long hike on the Lican Ray Peninsula, with stunning views of Lake Calafquen.
At the center of the park is a Mapuche Cultural Center, where we can enjoy a traditional meal.
Spend an afternoon learning from local artisans, expert wood workers. Learn about the native woods used for carpentry and handiwork in Chile as well as traditional tools and crafting techniques. You'll leave with a souvenir that will always be a cherished memory in your home.
Begin the morning with yoga on the black sand shores of Lake Villarrica — where gentle waves, crisp mountain air, and views of the snow-capped volcano create a setting that feels both grounding and expansive.
Practicing beside the water, surrounded by native forests and Patagonia’s quiet energy, offers a rare sense of calm and presence — an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with the body, and fully absorb the rhythm of southern Chile.
Sessions at Kura Pilates Studio offer a calm, intentional space to reconnect with the body through mindful movement.

Conditions are especially pleasant in the warmer months, when long daylight hours and steady breezes make for relaxed afternoons on the lake.
Horseback riding in Chile’s Lake District offers a quiet way to explore the region’s forests, countryside, and volcanic landscapes at a slower pace.
Trails wind through native woodland, open fields, and scenic viewpoints, creating a grounded, immersive experience in the landscapes surrounding Villarrica.

Kayaking on Lake Villarrica and the Toltén River are an enjoyable way to connect with the natural surroundings and connect as group.
For those who enjoy a bit more intensity, the Trancura River in nearby Pucón has kayaking and rafting options for those like a white of white water.
Your hosts are the family that owns and operates the La Colina Estate as well as the founders of Travel Chile Insider Excursions.
As the caretakers of La Colina over the past 12 years, we developed a passion for welcoming travelers into the magnificent nature-scapes of Chile's Lake District.
"Rather than simply providing lodging, we wanted to do something more meaningful.
We regularly found ourselves listening to our guests stories over dinner, helping them disconnect from everyday stressors, and guiding them towards the hidden gems and unique experiences in our area.
Overtime, La Colina Retreats and Travel Chile Insider evolved as a way to create our own signature experiences at the La Colina Estate, inviting travelers to celebrate the culture, cuisine, and natural beauty of Chile's Patagonia."
